Abdus Shakoor
Abdus Shakoor from Bangladesh uses mainly fold motifs and ancient ballads in his works. After completing a degree in painting, Shakoor joined the Institute of Fine Arts in Dhaka in 1980. He took a keen interest in painting, tapestry, batik and screen print. As a student at the Department of Fine Arts, Chittagong University, he came under the tutelage of Rashid Chowdhury, who encouraged him to work on the heritage, culture and myths of Bangladesh. Abuds Shakoor went on to study at the Baroda University in India during the late 70s. His work projects Bangladesh, Bengali nationalism, culture and language as his subjects; on the other hand he wants to also portray his Asian identity.
