Murtaja Baseer

is a distinguished artists of Bangladesh. He has contributed to the enrichment of his country's fine arts since the 1950s with his multifaceted creative activities. He obtained his bachelor's degree from the Institute of Fine Art, Dhaka University in 1956. He undertook higher studies at the Academia del Belli Arti in Florence during 1956-58 and the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris during 1971 - 73. Murtaja Baseer has gained distinction as an artist for his powerful drawings, balanced use of colours and a strong social commitment. Although he worked extensively in print, oil and water, his forte is in oils.
